CCA1206 / Magdalen Street Redevelopment, Norwich

5 Apartments / Watford
Cannon Clarke Architect’s were commissioned by Invia Group to design and submit for planning a 5 apartment residential scheme for a gap site in sub-urban north Watford
The site saw the rapid expansion of Watford’s suburbs between 1910 and 1930 when the Delectaland Chocolate Factory was located close by with access to the L & NWR railway line.
The plot had not seen development on it before, being left as open space between Edwardian semi-detached dwellings and opposite a terrace row of late Victorian properties.
Cannon Clarke’s design solution was a contemporary take on the character of the local housing stock, with a symmetrical double fronted façade in the Edwardian sense but with a nod to Victorian detailing of the brick and fenestration.
Internally apartments are split over 3 floors and express themselves at the rear of the property in the form of stepped massing culminating in a mansard roof.
CCA undertook significant research and looked at established local precedents for all the key architectural features referenced.
