CCA1362 / Heigham Park, Norwich – Replacement Public Washrooms

Public Washrooms / Norwich

Project Details

Cannon Clarke Architects, in parallel with the refurbishment project for the Wensum Park leisure development, have been commissioned by Norwich City Council to design the replacement public washrooms for Heigham Park in Norwich.

The proposals were granted planning permission and are due to be completed by late summer 2024.

The brief was to create a fit-for-purpose building to replace the dilapidated brick building in the context of the Grade 2 Listed Park.

The existing arrangement of separate male and female washrooms with entrances to the rear of the building were disregarded in favour of a bank of cubicles facing the main path with an external canopy emanating from the dual-pitch roof form. The new proposals benefit from passive surveillance and flexibility of inclusive cubicle designation.

The carefully selected material pallet of dark-stained timber and galvanised steel reflect the existing surrounding architecture of the park.

The challenge of this project was to achieve a robust solution within the public setting whilst reflecting the charm of the park to create a positive user experience.

Cannon Clarke Architects are appointed to carry out full RIBA services including contract administration. The project will be delivered under an RIBA standard form of contract. As a design practice that works across many sectors, we were able to utilise our experience from large-scale leisure developments and commercial projects to expediently deliver this commission for Norwich City Council with care and detail.
