Cannon Clarke Architects successfully won an open invitation to bid for a new community building for the Parish Council.

The brief aimed to enhance facilities at the recreation ground. Cannon Clarke Architects designed a solution that improves the aesthetic and functionality of the sports areas and public washrooms. Our design also accommodates the local Scout group and includes a new clubhouse for the local bowls club, both situated within the recreation ground’s boundaries.

We facilitated extensive stakeholder briefing sessions to establish a precise brief and agree on a schedule of accommodation. As a result, stakeholders decided to propose a single building to maximise efficiencies.

The proposed form resulted from how the 3 distinct uses interrelated. With the bowls club-house facing the bowls green, the Scouts facing their existing meeting hut and the sports changing rooms located adjacent to the pitches.

The building design articulates the 3 uses visually by virtue of the 3 facets of the roof form and subtle changes to the proposed external materials.

Further nuances of the design include a climbing wall for the Scouts, a visitors sports viewing terrace and a roof top terrace for the bowls pavilion.
