Cannon Clarke Architects were commissioned to provide a distinctive residential extension providing a contemporary, open plan living arrangement while celebrating views into the grounds of the property.

In depth consultation was undertaken with the client from an early stage to ascertain brief, aspirations and key constraints including financial viability within the context of an ever-changing economic climate.

Initial planning consent was obtained for a more extensive scope of remodelling in 2019 but the client revisited their requirements 4 years later and Cannon Clarke Architects revised the scheme and again secured planning consent.

Rooflights and strategically placed windows allow views out and natural light in to the previously dark and compromised core of the property ‘land-locked’ by an existing kitchen extension.

The use of exposed timber structure provides the extension with a distinct internal aesthetic, whilst externally the materiality of dark brick counterposes the vernacular red brick of original dwelling.
