Many traditional early 20th-century properties are inherently cellular in layout which limits engagement in the context of modern family living.

Cannon Clarke Architects were appointed to reinvent this traditional property to maximise the livable areas promoting ‘open-plan’ living. 

The subtle changes and interventions have increased the useable first-floor area whilst maximising the views into the gardens throughout.

The modern additions are sensitive to the existing building’s character and consideration was given to material upgrades for both aesthetic and thermal performance.

As the client was intent on remaining in the property whilst works were ongoing, phasing of the project was utmost in our design response to ensure it was financially viable for the client and, not least, to minimise disruption to their day-to-day living.

This residential extension project in Wymondham was well received by South Norfolk Planning Department and was granted planning permission.
