Sustainability in Action – Sustainable Housing Development 🌱

This sustainable housing development project is a distinctive new-build development at Water Moor Lane, Fakenham featuring seven executive homes. The inherited Outline Planning Permission for six dwellings was reimagined to enhance site layout while also increasing development value and architectural quality. The project comprises three and four-bedroom homes arranged as a barn-style complex around a shared central space. It’s proposed on disused farmland that cuts into sloping topography, with much of the vegetation to the site boundaries maintained.

The design prioritises sustainability through the use of low-carbon, natural materials such as timber frames, clay tiles and flint. The design features aspects that promote biodiversity, like planting and green roofs, and rainwater attenuation enhance its sustainability. To minimise energy use, the homes incorporate passive solar design, natural ventilation, and air source heat pumps. With spaces designed for home working and a pedestrian link to the town centre encouraging walking instead of driving and causing pollution. The project encourages greener, more connected lifestyles. Additionally, partnering with a local contractor reinforces our commitment to supporting the community and regional supply chains.

At Cannon Clarke Architects, sustainability is a key part of our work, creating designs that minimise environmental impact and enhance functionality, aesthetics, and the long-term wellbeing of communities.
