Planning Approval Obtained for Contemporary Extension

We’re very pleased to have received planning approval for a rear extension and alterations to a detached thatched cottage in Southeast Norfolk. The new design will transform the restrictive 19th-century single-storey extension, creating an open-plan family kitchen/dining space, a bathroom and separate WC to the ground floor, and improving the connection to the rear garden.

Key features include a carefully designed roof that slopes backwards to fit under the existing thatched roof, maintaining its visual integrity. Zinc cladding has been used for a modern touch, and new glazing brings extra light into both the ground and first floors. We’ve ensured minimal disturbance to the original structure while enhancing functionality with a new utility space and entrance lobby. The contemporary design balances beautifully with the historic elements, using materials that enhance the existing, non-designated heritage asset. The demolition of the existing 19th-century extension will make way for more energy-efficient construction.

Below are a couple of proposed images and a current image.
