Cannon Clarke have secured Listed Building Consent for a single storey extension to the rear of the Grade II Listed red and buff brick detached house. Previous to the current owner’s occupation, the house had operated as a dentist surgery and had been extended in the 1990s with a small waiting room, which the new proposal replaces.
To suit the client’s needs the extension operates in an open-plan arrangement of kitchen, dining and living. Large bifold doors open out to an extensive rear garden framed by a brick portal of buff/grey brick to contrast and differentiate the extension from the existing building. Untreated Russian Larch cladding panels sit between the glazing extents.
Internally the 3 functions within the open plan space are subtly defined in the ceiling by the use of down-stand rusticated oak beams. Crittall screens divide the extension from the original house.
Cannon Clarke Architects worked hard to secure listed building consent and worked closely with the local conservation officer to ensure the project was properly consulted. A high-quality design and graphic presentation helped secured permission. Cannon Clarke have since provided drawings for building regulations purposes and provided a detailed construction package which was competitively tendered.
The project is currently live on site and due to be completed September 2019. Cannon Clarke Architects are acting as contract administrators for the project to ensure the project is delivered in accordance with the contract conditions, giving our client the peace of mind that the project will be delivered to budget and to the highest of quality.
